TOPIC: Features at Wall Street
Posted  Thursday, April 8, 2004 at 2:11 PM
Post 1 of 27
Here's the obligatory "Hey who's going tomorrow!?!" thread. I found out who the openers are. Anybody heard of 'em?

They got a star in the Rage:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
* THE FEATURES. With S.J. & THE PROPS. They were originally part of the great Spongebath Records scene in Murfreesboro in the late '90s, but the new century finds The Features in league with a more national movement of post punk/new wave hybrids a la Hot Hot Heat and The Rapture who are bringing back the '80s but filtering it through the shattered lens of indie rock. 9pm, Wall Street (Murfreesboro), $3-$5.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Only $3 for us old guys and gals-- what a bargain!!!!

I'll be there. Once again, hopefully I'll meet some of you. I finally met Ghostflower on Sunday so I'm looking forward to meeting more Features fans from this board.

Hey SuperElk--bring my mix cd! I shall look out for you this time around.

I was trying to figure out if the band is "SJ & the Props" or if it's two separate acts.

I assume it's one band. None of the other Rage listings use the ampersand.

I hate it when bands come out with names that don't lend themselves to a good web addresss (like www.thefeatures.com) or at the very least an easy websearch. Yes, they should freely express themselves through their bandname blah blah blah, but it's just good business-sense.

the bass player that played on all of those old motown songs (James Jamerson) must have been a big influence on Roger's playing. You should listen for it if you have any old marvin gaye/stevie wonder...any of that.

Funny, I didn't realize this show fell on a Friday. I could definitely make it, but I hadn't planned on it.

I can't make this show, but I will be there for the Belmont show. You guys better be there, too. I was thinking about how fun it's gonna be to sing/dance/talk to some of you again on the way home from work.

My appreciation for Jamerson is still strong. But also...Bob Babbitt! Just go to the "discography" section of his site and peep all of the tracks he's played on. Many of the great bass parts that I was crediting Jamerson for were actually played by Babbitt. Bob Babbitt is a Nashvillian, too. And let me tell you, it will be really embarassing for whoever's with me if I run into him.

I'm not sure who Roger's bass heroes are. I feel like I've had that conversation with him before, but I can't remember. I would be really surprised if he wasn't a fan of Jamerson/Babbitt, though. Also: Mike Mills.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

S.J. and The Props is Gary Welch's (the katies) new band. Featuring other great musicians such as Jeff Keeran and James Robbins.
We have about 1500 songs.....all of them good!

I have to close in the box office tomorrow night, meaning I will be leaving the theater at around 10:30. I figure this shouldn't propose much of a problem since I can't think of a time in recent history that the Features started prior to 11. Of course, this means I may not be a Front Row Elitist Snob, but that is okay with me.

I also won't look cool since I'll probably only be able to change my shoes from work attire. Oh well. Looking cool is what these shows are all about. cool.gif

I was almost considering trying to make it part of an ensemble, with a snazzy tie and coat...highly doubtful, though.

Uh, I already tried to post this post, but it didn't show up? Anyway, yeah, jc, I was there when you asked Roger that & I think it was at the Red Rose. It may have been the first time I officially met you? I know the list included Paul & Robert Sledge. Can't remember otherwise.
