can we try to have a show/session of the week? Like one week post the entire Mississippi album in the best sounding source available, and the next week have a live show or something? sound crazy? i'm i getting desperate for Mississippi.

I'd be down with that.

FWIW, I have the following:

Self Titled EP (cd)
Soaking in the Center 1 and 2 (cd)
Thursday Rabbit March (cd from vinyl)
Mississippi (cd from mp3 -so encoding to mp3 would degrade more)
Mahaffey (cd from mp3)
33/Circus (cd from mp3)
The Beginning (I'd never upload available material)
Leave It all Behind (cd from mp3)
12 and Porter show (already up)
Blue Cats show (cd from blightman's md)

And I'd upload any of it, though people with good mp3s of Mississippi (less the 6 songs from soaking and thursday), Mahaffey, and the rest of the stuff I have on cd from mp3 would be better candidates for that, so as to avoid the double compression.

w- good call on not posting for sale items. i think the band would appreciate that. it's just in good tast as a features fan. although the spongbath stuff is probably fair game.

by the way, i really wish i had access from my home again. i'd love to hear the new live stuff you've posted.

Several Boro bands did a Pixies cover thing in December 99. I was home for Christmas or I would've been right there for it. Do you have the whole show? I always wanted to hear the one-time-only band Go Kart.

Yes. As I posted in another thread, the Features did 'Hey' and 'Allison'.

Definitely need the Pixies covers. Please send them upstream!
BTW, a weekly "special" sounds like a good idea to me. I finally maxed out my server space last night (I couldn't save my homework!), so I had to scrub some of the older files to make room for new stuff.

This week's special is the 12th and Porter show, and it will be there til Monday morning. Next week's special? Who wants to upload it Monday AM?

Where did you get those? I'm mainly curious because I recorded the 11-11 and 12-16 shows, and I'm wondering if you have different copies from what I have. I'm trying to remember with whom I've traded.

ok. is Kari Ann supposed to have a "clicking" sound in it the whole time? is everyone's copy like this? Exercising Demons, Stagecoach (just a little) and Discotheque have this too. I'm not trying to be a picky bastard, but it would be nice to have perfect rips. If mp3's have problems I just can't listen to them. I've never even listened to my copy of Mississippi because the quality is so poor and I know a better copy must out there. Let's get the best copies of this stuff out their for everyone and than we can stop circulating the crap.

Edit - See You Through also has a major glitch 1:15ish.

In my humble opinion, the only thing that is even worth hearing in the whole Rawlings session is Discoteque. The Mahaffey sessions and Mississippi Album could have been acceptable as fell-length releases, but I'm glad those sessions never officially saw the light of day. Poor production met the band at a time when their songs and new dynamic were not ready to be recorded.

All that said, I honestly don't know if I've got a good copy of the sessions because they've basically sat on my shelf since I got them.

Wow. That sounds rather like extortion to me. Considering so many people have uploaded so many mp3s to that site (and just given away rarities on cd before that site was around) without and expectation of reward, its rather wrong to wave rarities you possess in people's faces and demand certain things in return. Mark me: Mississippi will find its way up there soon enough. Hopefully your rarities even sooner. There's no reason not to upload them now.

Can't hear the "clicking" sound referred to previously... Maybe I should listen with headphones.

The 'glitches', however, are native to my CD. There are no scratches or smudges on the disc, and it sounds exactly the same no matter which CD player I play them on. It appears that these defects were, at some point in the chain, hard-coded onto CD. There is nothing I can do about it.

So, sorry to be circulating 'crap'. I welcome anyone with better rips to post them. For myself, I am grateful to be able to hear these sessions in any format. I will hold my criticisms for the anxiously-awaited official full-length release.

well, it may be shitty, but so is life. No one has just offered me the tracks I seek with no strings attached. People have e-mailed me for trades, but I honestly just don't have time for trading. So, if i was to trade these in the normal sense of the term I would be expecting something in return for them. I have something you want, you have something I want. Let's trade, but if I don't get what I want I have absolutely no duty to give them up and you should have no expectation for me to just give you what you want. I uploaded one of the tracks from the features show as a gesture showing my intent to give you something you want when someone is nice enough to post something I want. I could have been a complete asshole and just took the Rawlings Sessions. I didn't have to post on here an offer to give the rest of what I have in exhange for what I want.

Truth betold, telling someone that what they are doing is shitty isn't the most effective way in getting them to do what you want them to. The only thing that it accomplishes is seriously pissing the person off. Do you think I'm going to give you the tracks now? Maybe....

As for the "crap" remark, i appreciate the mp3's of the Rawlings sessions and if they are the best available than that's what I will have to live with. But until I know that a better source does not exist, they will be in my personal opinion crap. That however does not down play the generosity of the person who posted them. I truly appreciated the chance to hear the sessions, but now that I've heard them I will not be satisfied with mp3's that have flaws. There again, that's my personal preferance to have the highest quality source available for my music. If you are satisfied with flawed mp3's that's your preferance.

Kustomboy:

I might be wrong, but I think that the reason that you've rubbed some people the wrong way is your attitude. The nature of the MP3 site is to provide a place for people to share (band-approved) music that's now unavailable. It's not a trading post, and it's not a stock market. People put up what they have in the name of sharing, not so they can get something in return. No one here has HQ Mississippi Sessions or Rawlings Sessions. They just don't. If they did, they'd offer them up. I'm sorry that you didn't get what you wanted. If, out of spite, you don't want to put up the other MP3s that you have, that's okay. Just be glad that there's an MP3 site at all.

If you want the Mississippi stuff, just e-mail me your address, and I'll mail it to you, no strings attatched. But it will be the same shitty sound quality as what you already have, because that's all I have.

Jamie,

The band is offically quiet on the issue, but don't take that as meaning they approve of it (or are happy about it being there). Please keep this in mind for any folks who hold mp3s of any of the new stuff and are considering placing it on the site.

I thought that this was one reason all the new mp3s were being so tightly held. I doubt they'll leak, and I don't think any one would let anything the Features don't want out to get released.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a studio recording of "leave it all behind" on that site? What session is that from? I assumed it was spanking new.

Oh, and I agree with JC. This site should be nothing more than a place where we all share what we have with one another (if it's cool with the band). I have a lot of friends who won't go see a band that they've never heard, so having current, quality recordings helps me spread the good word. That, and I listen to that sh!t nonstop to gear up for shows. I wish I had something unique to offer.

The version of "Leave It All Behind" that's floating around was recorded from the radio. Roger and Parrish were on 102.9 on April 21 (see thread here). They played the song during that show. Obviously, we can assume that they don't mind us passing around a song that was broadcast alll over Middle Tennessee.

Exactly why I'm not giving you Mississippi mp3s... mine were encoded once and sound as though they were encoded relatively low (96? 64?). I feel it'd be a disservice if I encoded them again, and then you'd be complaining about the fact that better copies do exist.

The fact remains that you've surely downloaded more mp3s from that site than you've given. I've taken more than I've given, which is why I've given every time it seemed appropriate (the entire blightman 12th and Porter recording, and a few extras).

Brian,

do you mean to say that the band it either in disapproval of the site or angry that previous, scrapped sessions have been made available? Or that shows are being offered up? You indicate that this is the case.

If you only meant that they don't want the newest studio stuff on there, then I think everyone realizes that and (much to my chagrin) won't upload it.

But if the band really takes issue with what currently happens, I'd like to know that, for my own state of mind.

I think the biggest issue for the band is that the newest studio stuff, already recorded for the future full length, remain off the site. I think they can care less about live stuff. Past shelved records are probably somewhere in between, but they haven't asked me (nor has the management themselves made the effort) to ask you all to stop uploading/downloading or for the site to be removed. The band isn't Metallica. So...

Feel free to trade or download what's up there. I only ask that if anybody does have the new stuff, don't put it up there.
