The Nashville Scene announced their inaugural music festival today. Performers at the festival will be determined by readers' votes. This is where you come in: The Features have been nominated for best Rock/Signed band. Go to here and vote now. And vote often!

Against KOL... AGAIN ? Didn't this happen last year or something? Maybe you can send out mass emails on myspace and get us some votes . . .

Last year, the big competition was Feeble Weiner (plus Will Hoge and Josh Rouse).

The controversy wasn't that they used a Myspace mailer, but that TOM sent out a mailer encouraging people to vote, regardless of whether or not they were in Nashville or had even heard of the other bands. The initial impression was that he sent it to EVERYONE on Myspace, but it was later explained that his mailer was only sent to people in Tennessee. Feeble Weiner ended up winning.

thread

I decided this year to send out a Myspace message as "The Features" addressed to "Nashville Fans". I figured that was the only way to effectively reach local fans. One may argue that this was hipocritical and shady in light of all the bitching last year, but I will remind you that the message only went out to FANS of the band (both local and non-local), not EVERYONE in Tennessee on Myspace. Plus, this is a competition among "Signed" bands, so it will be a little easier for non-local folks to make an informed decision if they choose to vote.

(you might file this under 'duh, we've covered that topic')...but with the features and that 'other band' playing in balitmore on september 24th, i'm guessing that narrows the "rock/signed" category down to 3 bands. so, that's another election where my vote didn't count...

...unless there is still hope....

I'm hearing The Pink Spiders will be the representative of the category.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

From what I've heard, the Nashville Scene, when they dreamt this thing up, assumed that the winning artists would WANT to play the show. And you know what happens when we assume...

I think the artists with the highest totals who WANT TO play the show will be the "winners."

Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

The Scene contacted the management of The Features and asked if they would like to be added to the ballot. They didn't respond, but the Scene put them on the ballot anyway. Lame.

No, not exactly. I may have said too much. But I will say that I agree with jamiecarroll's last statement.

What's lame? That The Features didn't respond or that The Scene put them on the ballot anyway? Or perhaps both?

When will the results of the voting be announced? Or did I miss that part?

the scene's website says that the "confirmed artists names" will be posted in their Sept. 15th issue.
