TOPIC: NEW SHOWS!
Posted  Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at 12:21 PM
Post 1 of 91
Wow! That's a lot of shows coming up.

First, a question: what is this "Inferno" place in Murfreesboro? Is this Main Street's latest name?

Shows that I think I will be going to:
-Friday, September 5 at the Exit/In, Nashville
-Thursday, October 2 at Inferno, Murfreesboro

Maybe:
-Saturday, September 27 at the Earl, Atlanta
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Also, who else will be at this Fictitious Records showcase?

I'm sure Character and the Lucky Guns will be there. What about Stone Jack Jones? Who else is even on that label?

It is the latest incarnation of Main Street. From the shows (ok, 1 show) I've seen there the sound is pretty decent. Very strange place for them to play, although they do have a real stage, and a balcony so it could be a nice place to see them. Better and bigger than the Red Rose anyway.

the inferno bar is ok. i don't know anything about the sound there, but i saw semi-pro wrestling there one time. i agree that it's a weird place for them to play.

Seriously, though, BenMatlock played me the new 45 (man, vinyl is the cooooolest) and it sounds superb. That dude might actually be clean... for now.

Sucks to be out of state for all of this...

It does my heart good to see that they're playing Rhythm and Brews in "the Nooge." Not that The Attic ever treated them wrong to my knowledge, but it was a tad small and, lets face it, I always hated watching them walk up the stairs with all of their gear.

Carl, (since i don't know how to quote) good one about Elliot Smith! lol!!!I think we're only going to get one record from him every four years...that seems to be the standard length of his smack and sobriety cycle.

Jamiecarrol, i would venture to guess that the !Slowdown Hero! record will be played as house music but not performed. I mean, how can it be performed?

Yes, the new Gateway Arch Bridge will connect to that side of the river parallel to that spot and the new street will run right through the former spot of 328.

No kidding. As I was walking past what is now a vacant lot on Friday night, I was thinking of how many incredible shows I saw there through the years. Blur, Kula Shaker, Weezer (twice), the Foo Fighters, Mike Watt, the Dave Matthews Band, Cracker, and the Strokes are just a few off the top of my head. I think the closing of 328 has left a big void in Nashville for that size venue.

There is definitely a need for a venue bigger than Exit/In. Maybe another one will turn up somewhere (someway, somehow).

Also, thanks for explaining why they tore it down, JC. I thought it was because they ran a crack and whore house in the back.

i know the band is pushing their new stuff and all, but they should have an "oldies show" where they just play some of their early stuff. I think this is an idea brian w should tell someone about. not all of us were cool enough to like the features way back when they dressed up and did weird things on stage and it'd be awesome to hear some older stuff- hey lou in particular.

Now that I'm down in Athens, sweating to death from class to class, it's hard to believe (and quite sad) that the last time I saw The Features it was actually COLD. They've been gone far too long, or is it for too long?
Why would you do that?

Will the Features be playing a much shorter set on the 5th since its a showcase?

My guess is that the set will be shorter due to the number of bands performing.

And what's with this Memphis nonsense? Is that part of Tennessee? I sometimes forget because it's so far away! I think it's really part of Mississippi and the band were bored to death the last time they were in Mississippi.

Okay, just kidding here West Tennesseans... I would assume that Memphis will be included in the still-in-the-works "Midwest" tour. I'll make it a point to ask the Rory next time he graces me with his appearance.

I have the best chances of making the showcase (where there will be a shorter set) and the Earl (where they're the opener and will play a shorter set). Life blows.

At least there will be a good PA at the showcase. I'm stuck with the Red Rose show. It'll still rule, though.

More than that, I hope that the Bongo-Main-Street-Inferno will be ultra Features-friendly so that it will become the new place for the Features to play in Murf. I am going to try try try to make that show to support it. We'll see.

same here...what is meant, exactly, by "short"? Short as in 12-13 songs or short as in 5-7? My 4 1/2 hour drive depends on this. Dammit, why can't they play in athens?
Why would you do that?

I am highly sure that it'll be more than 3-5 songs. The Features will probably headline and play a good 10-13 songs, or probably 45 minutes to an hour.

If you're referring to the Earl, then it will probably be 10-13 songs since they'll be the opener. They will make it worth their own trip down there. As the openers, they won't do 24 songs or anything glorious like that.

I hate to ruin all of the speculation with historical facts, but the last time the Features played a showcase at 12th & Porter, they only played six songs.

This show is a "showcase" in the sense of getting Fictitious Records name out there and raising the profile of some of the other bands that rarely or have never played here before. This is totally different from your standard industry showcase. The Features will be playing a normal set. The first band will start promptly at 9pm.

Did I miss the announcement of the official lineup for opening acts for this "showcase"? I think I heard Lucky Guns and Character were playing. I'm not really sure why I'm asking, seeing that I won't be there. I just want to get more upset about missing this show.

From the Fictitious Records site:

The news is out, tell all your friends. Friday night September 5th at the Exit/In, Nashville, TN ... An Evening With Fictitious Records. Show starts at 9:00 is $10 and is 18+. All the great acts that you've come to know and love here at Fictitious will be on stage including ... The Features, Character, Lucky Guns, Ultralash, and Stone Jack Jones. Plus you'll be able to hear the new iSlow Down Hero! madness and of course buy all the records your heart desires. Maybe a surprise or two from the reculsive Roger Moutenot. And of course we've got great new T-shirts as well. Yes, this will be the live event of the season. A back to school smash, a chance to catch up with friends old and new, the best time you'll have rocking out all year. Hard to believe that this many great acts could all play one night under the same roof, but only Fictitious could bring it together. See you there!

Who is Ultralash?

I will probably be at the Red Rose. I will definitely be at the Exit/In.

Is it because they are already signed and thus, there is no need for them to play? Or, did they just choose not to?

What do they have to gain? From what I hear, you have to pay to play. All to play a 30 minute set? This is a better forum for bands that want to make some connections and get their names out there (with a few exceptions of course). I think The Features have more than accomplished that as of late.

Plus, Keith told me that Rollum has (low-grade) pneumonia.
