How funny...this fan thinks that Jump helped the features make their "big break." It didn't take any effort-just a tour with Jump.jump mb

I assume this is another case of not knowing the history of The Features. If they knew that this band had been around longer than a decade struggling for any recognition they might think differently, but of course when you buy into a curse than you aren't thinking very rationally to begin with.

I still say that this tour was a great opportunity for The Features.

Matt Meeks told me they were just along with JLC because they are paying for it and they asked them. I don't really think this is an "opportunity" for them. Universal would pay for a tour..and are.

that post really confused me (not that that's been hard to do lately.)

Are you saying the Features paid for the tour and asked jump to let them open for them. OR, are you saying that jump both asked The Features and paid for their stuff as well?

And anytime a group of people get to hear The Features, its an opportunity for them to make new fans and get the word out.

Yeah, but would they draw those kind of numbers outside of nashville on their own? Hell no. Not yet, at least.

I think all the recent posts from Jump fans speak for themselves.

It's not that they are saying that it's because of them opening for Jump helped them make their "big break", it's just that they are saying that it's just another occurance of a band that has opened for Jump becoming more well known than Jump. Because that has happened a lot, and not as a result of certain bands opeing for Jump, but that they do become more popular than Jump. It's just a weird little thing.

Welcome, Tattersnake! Well said. I remember Greengbles pointed the same thing out when we first found out:

I've been a fan of jump since 96...a few years before I started seeing the features.  I agree it is an odd mixing, but it's good news.  Many of the bands who have opened for jump over the years have become fairly well known (it's considered their curse in some ways)...

in all reality, they've both been struggling to get noticed for the same amount of time. They've just had really really different obstacles and stuff to deal with. It's awesome the features are finally getting noticed, but that's mainly due to the label promo than actual touring and stuff. I can count the number of times I've seen them play in my area on one hand, but since the tour with jump, that number has doubled. How is that not a good opportunity? Isn't it always better to open for a full crowd than headline a show where only 10 people come?

Jump may never ever be at the level it should be, but shit at least they've got really good taste in other bands.

Nice post, Racharoo. If the Features played this same tour on their own they'd attract maybe a 1/3rd (or less) of the crowd that Jump's bringing in each night. So for that kind of exposure I know this tour's been good for the band. And I know that they're trying to line up at least one summer tour to open for another band. I think they've been selling 30-40 CDs a show and t-shirts and all that. Clearly we're picking up fans at every stop. The band definitely sees this as a great opportunity.

I have to say, with the way things were going pre-jump tour, I think they would have been on a similiar path (if only a few months back) without it. I mean, an album hasn't even been released yet. Of course noone's going to have heard of the Features.

What do we think would occur if the Features had gone on a tour on their own this year, and then released their album, and then gone on another tour. I think they'd do just as well, just not as soon.

In conclusion, I think that the Jump tour expedited the process rather than made the Features.

That's just semantics, dude. Fact is: because of their tour with Jump, they've played to tons of new people and consequently made several new fans. If they hadn't toured with such a big drawing band (the numbers don't lie), that would not have happened without a full-length release (which I'm still not holding my breath for).

Whether you like Jump or not, everyone should just get over it and admit that this tour was a great opportunity for them. Some bands get exposure because they work hard, promote themselves and tour their asses off. Others get it because they have music that appeals to the masses and they get opportunities to get their shit out there. I think our beloved Features fall primarily into the second category and I'd be willing to bet money that they would be the first to admit that. If The Features had really been "paying their dues" over the past decade, they'd be a much bigger draw outside of a few select cities in the state of tennessee. I don't think this is a bad thing. To me, it just says that the music sells itself as long as the right people are there to hear it.

Okay, sorry for the rant. Continue the sack-stroking.

maybe the jump fans can help me out here, but it seems like they have a bigger fanbase in the south/southeast than up in those yankee parts. but yeah, i think the tour was good for the features.
