Okay, this has come up before. Any thoughts? My stance is a reluctant "yes". I think it would be a good mark to end an era and welcome a bright future. Am I thinking about this too hard?

I think that the 10" piece of Thursday vinyl should have kicked the bucket a long time ago, but I still enjoy hearing the song at shows. It needs to stay, particularly for any tours of America.

I'd like it to stick around, but as a rarity. Maybe 1 out of every 5 shows.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

How many people can say that Thursday was THE song that sold them on the Features? How many can say it was an early favorite of theirs? Probably a lot of us. For that reason, it should stay. It's an anthem, and it's a classic.

I still hold that locally it would be OK for it to be played maybe one out of every 5 shows. Just a thought.

I got tired of "Thursday" a long, long time ago. But at shows, I see that it still does move the newcomers. Therefore, I say keep it in there - at least until they have a better closer, which, in my opinion, they currently do not.

I miss the days when Rollum would interject some comedy in this song - playing a melodica, playing a GameBoy, throwing out candy, etc.

I say it should stay, but just be played less frequently.

Perhaps it could just be played on shows that occur on Thursday. That would probably relegate it to about 1 out of 5 status.

I do not, under any circumstances, think this song should be retired.

my vote is an enthusiastic "no." i like it at every show. i'm not tired of it and i, too, think it catches the ear of a lot of new fans. plus, there are still the occassional comic relief antics present. example: at the vineyard, rollum finding the one of the mini light brights left over from the first band and shining it at roger for the majority of the song.

If that's the case, I want to change my vote.

I should have included a "play it less" option. Sorry.

It may or may not have been during Thursday, but I was just flashing back to one show where Roger and Rollum were throwing things at each other, and I think it was during Thursday.

NO

1. It includes the most crowd-participation of any song, and that's always fun at a Features show.
2. It's the longest song they have, and they need long songs.
3. It has loud parts, soft parts, fast parts, and slow parts.
4. Matt whistles.
5. When else to Roger and Rollum have time to play paper-rock-scissors?

I think that "Thursday" needs to be the Features "Surf Wax". For years and years "Surf Wax" was the only way fans of the band knew that the only way they could safely leave without missing any part of a Weezer show was to wait for "Surf Wax." Personally, I think that this is a good model to follow, mainly because it gives one a feeling of finality. How many times have we all gone home only to hear the next day that a band played our favorite song after we left as an encore? It's a good indicator, plus it remindes me of a rollicking pub crawl in colchester - one in which my friend Tim would end up doing the crazy Irish skank (which is a dance, not a person). Those times must be remembered and revered.
It's all about taking the easy way out for you, I suppose.

I agree. As I said in the "favorite features setlist" thread, I think a show needs a good clincher, and Thursday should remain just that.

Just out of curiosity, have they ever played Thursday as just a regular song, and not the "last" song?

When they were a 5-piece, it was played in different places in the set. I don't know exactly when it changed, but as along as they've been a 4-piece, it has been a closer when they play it.

I assumed there was an encore break.

From my memory, Thursday has always been the set closer or encore closer.

I think the songs following it were sort of a semi-encore. They didn't leave the stage since there wasn't really anywhere for them to go, but it felt like everything following was sort of a bonus. That may just be because I'm used to Thursday being a closer, but it seemed like they paused for a minute before forging ahead.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

It does seem to be an important tradition for in-town shows.. but there's no need for them to play it for new audiences in places they've never been before. They've got much better material now.

When they play Chattanooga, there are very clearly folks that came simply because they remember Thursday. This song has powers over people...

I expected this to be more even. Only two other people voted yes so far. I guess this song has stood the test of time for a reason. For the record, I love the song-- especially live, I just questioned as to whether or not it still "fit" into their set.

Maybe this would have been a lot more interesting if I had a "not at every show" option. Maybe some other time...
