She also dated Beck, and didn't she bag a Stroke or two? She also dated the guy from Soul Asylum whose name has thankfully escaped me.

And I also don't think Ryan Adams is that bad. I think he is a very very funny guy. His speech about Liam mistaking him for Beck is genius.

Neuboy, I know that I expressed my surprise and elation about your re-emergence in another thread, but let me just go on the record again as saying that it's great to have you back. Pay attention to this man's words, kids, he is what the Bible would call a prophet.

i know we should all bow down to neuboy and everything he says but just because he is one of the coolest people i know, doesn't mean we have to agree with everything he says. now i know there are some ryan adams fans on this site who aren't speaking up for fear they will be rejected for disagreeing with neuboy (which i applaud you rachel for sticking by your man). i happen to like what i have heard and i don't see why you think he is such a waste of oxygen. simply saying he sucks isn't adequate enough for me. why do you think he sucks? because he is too mainstream? don't get me wrong- i think it is great that you have an opinion, and great that you have expressed it. i simply want to know why you hate him so much that you wish physical harm against him. i also think it takes a lot of guts to expose a private side of your life and if i dated winona ryder and she dumped me i know it would fuck me up pretty bad. and why does everyone think he is so ugly??? i think he is adorable. anywho...just stupid little thoughts that will probably be ignored anyways...please dont kick me off the board. i love neuboy!!! welcome back! smile.gif

i likes him. ryan adams is a very talented (if by talented, i mean prolific, which i do-granted i'll take quality over quanity any day, but when you write 300 songs, chances are there are going to be a couple of gems there). Heartbreaker is maybe my favorite break-up album of all time. yes, he's a spoiled little fuck-up drunk cunt who never had to work a real job his entire life, but aren't most good musicians (save the name sake of this message board). i agree he's been way too hyped and probably will be faded from memory in a couple of years. but...oh fuck it. i'm rambling.

oh, and i'll be dating wynona ryder in a matter of months.

"heartbreaker" is a very good album, an excellent album to be exact. however, "gold" is rather spotty(there are only about 5 good songs on the whole thing), and what i've heard of "demolition" is on par with "gold". i have yet to hear anyone say why they dont like ryan adams, i respect all of your opinions, but everyone hasnt explained why they dont like him.... or want to fuck up his pretty face....

He's boring. He's full of himself. He gets tons of hype so I've given his music more than a few listens and still he bores me. Nothing new, nothing special. Nothing worthy of hype or worship. In my opinion.

OK...I don't think that Ryan Adams' music sucks, per se. There are a handful of his songs that I like. I've listened to his stuff on several occasions, but have just "not gotten it." It's not awful music, it's just (in my opinion) mediocre and unoriginal music. But wait...I know that A LOT of people make mediocre and unoriginal music these days! I can sometimes stomach mediocre and unoriginal. But (in Adams' case) when you combine mediocre and unoriginal music with someone who thinks he's the shit and is generally a pretentious asshole, I lose all patience and want to vomit.

I apologize for not being more clear as to my reasons for thinking that the aforementioned cunt waste of sperm and egg is not to my liking. First, I'll agree with both Lauren's and Ben's explanations. Mediocre, M.O.R. bullshit music + overly arrogant attitude = cunt waste of sperm and egg. I've heard a few too many stories about this prick that make my stomach turn. That thing at the Ryman for example. Grandstanding. He deserves whatever comparisons to Brian Adams he gets. They both make bland m.o.r. bullshit. He deserves that curse. Also, the "do not tow, Ryan Adams of Whiskeytown" story is pretty indicative as well. As far as the mainstream aspect, I don't really care how mainstream he is. I happen to enjoy bizarre off-kilter music quite a bit. That said, everything I listen to is not bizarre and off-kilter and I don't expect anyone to share my opinions about music or anything else. In fact, I invite everyone to disagree with me. I like to argue. If you think I'm full of shit, tell me so. I don't expect a reason. I just don't like the guy for the above reasons and many more that I can't think of right now. Rest assured, as soon as I remember them I'll let you know. Oh yeah, it's only a matter of time before that yes-man of a sideguy of his gets on the board and springs to his aid. What is that guy's name? I see him around town all the time. Christ, he's even more pathetic. He wrote in to the Scene defending his boy after someone wrote a disparaging article about him. What a twat.

the debacle at the ryman proves how much of a spoiled brat he is. some people may think that it was funny, but heckling is just a part of show business, i suppose. he should expect someone to heckle him at least once during a show. for him to stop the show and ask that guy to leave, i thought, was appalling. that guy paid for a seat, he cant just pay him to leave like that. i mean who the hell does he think he is...axl rose?

however, all bickering aside, i still think that "heartbreaker" is a really good album...the other two are very bland.

I have not weighed in on this topic yet. I kind like Ryan Adams. I am a reformed addict. Two years ago I was in love. I love Whiskeytown and probably always will. There were some amazing musicians other than Ryan in that band. My fav. Whiskeytown songs are the ones where Caitlin Cary sings. She is humble and very personable, unlike Ryan. Gold and Demolition have really turned me off. I think I am through with him now, he has plenty of other fans to worship him now.

About the Ryman incident, I read in Stomp and Stammer (Atlanta's answer to The Scene, but with lots of attitude) that Ryan had possibly paid someone to do this and cause a scene. The editior said he needed to stop trying to be like Andy Kaufman and just play music. Also, fellow Bloodshot label mate Robbie Fulks is offering 30.00 in merchandise for anyone to request Brian Adams songs and disrupt the shows.

Twat is in my top three funniest words of all time. We used to prank call people in high school, say "twat", and hang up. My friend from France would pronounce it so it rhymed with "cat", which was even funnier. Good times...

"rockstars are people, too."
this is so onica and anok. i am not a groupie. i say fuck, but i don't fuck. it's just that i can carry on a fun conversation with the people they work for without having to ask them if they would like something to drink. i'm fun, really. and i don't work for a record company and i don't care to be a musician. and i'm hot. (this is something i've just come to terms with.) but i'm smart and when it comes to business, i can talk LLC shit all day. (i may be going to law school)

how many songs? who knows. but it doesn't matter. don't feel threatened. i'm not going to pull a c.lo and marry everyone's favourite rockstar and ruin his music career. my god, i married a computer programmer who's been writing software since he was 12 and doesn't listen to music.

i'll fuck ryan adams.

and yes, rock&roll is much different from his previous work...especially heartbreaker. that seems to be the theme, though... he never sticks with anything too long. gold was much more mainstream...with great pop melodies thrown all over the place, and demolition... was just fucking perfect. what's wrong with changing the makeup a little? keeps things fresh in my book.

i picked up love is hell vol 1 this weekend, and have already lost the damn thing it seems. he does a cover of wonderwall. had me questioning a bit. his voice is lush.
rachel,
i'd recommend it, especially if you like his softer stuff.

That thing at the Ryman for example.  Grandstanding.  He deserves whatever comparisons to Brian Adams he gets.  They both make bland m.o.r. bullshit.  He deserves that curse.
the debacle at the ryman proves how much of a spoiled brat he is. some people may think that it was funny, but heckling is just a part of show business, i suppose. he should expect someone to heckle him at least once during a show. for him to stop the show and ask that guy to leave, i thought, was appalling. that guy paid for a seat, he cant just pay him to leave like that. i mean who the hell does he think he is...axl rose?

however, all bickering aside, i still think that "heartbreaker" is a really good album...the other two are very bland.
the fucking ryman story was blown sooo out of proportion.
heckling may be part of show business but it's still disrespectful.
the fucker was disrupting the show for everyone else.
seems like the only spoiled brat there was the heckler.
