I like this song a whole lot. Thanks, Rick Rubin!

seriously, it's killer. the lyrics and song itself are both great, which seems hard to come by in mainstream rap.

This song is the jam. I've pretty much liked everything Jay-Z has done.
you're everybody's second home
always trying to get me alone
an easy way to lose it all
always there when all else fails
over by the west side rails

I saw the "controversial" video last night. This clown takes the whole "look at my black ass keeping it real and looking cool in the ghetto" to a whole new sickening level. They aired a warning longer than the video itself because he gets gunned down at the end. He said it's important because it symbolizes the death of JayZ and the rebirth of (whatever his real name is). Man, that's some deep, deep stuff.

The song is alright, but I think the DJ Dangermouse remix on the Grey Album is 1000 times better.

I agree that the video isn't that controversial, especially when you consider some other things that you might see on MTV. however, I think this "whole new sickening level" comment is a little silly. look at just about all other rap videos (sans eminem & outkast). the status quo has been scantily clad girls, expensive cars, jewelry, and "living everyday like it's the weekend" . personally, I would rather see the "99 Problems" video. as far as the ending is concerned, it's the death of the old jay-z and his rebirth as sean carter (?). it makes sense to me. he was killed where he was raised, the streets of brooklyn. to my understanding, it is his last video and last album as jay-z, so it's symbolic. it's certainly not the best symbolism ever, but I applaud him for at least giving me something to think about in his video, as opposed to giving fourteen year olds something to watch while they spank off.

I'll be interested to see what JC has to say about this song.

While not his best work, "99 Problems" is a good single to sign off with. Did anyone who saw this video notice Vincent Gallo up in it?

Jay-Z. the best there is....the best there ever was.

I have to say, RD, that it's really great, just like pretty much everything 'Hov has ever put out.

Have ya'll ever seen the Jay-Z Unplugged? That was really slammin'. I have it on tape.

Controversial? Shit. I thought the really controversial one these days was "Tip Drill." Have ya'll seen that? That part where Nelly swipes the credit card through the girl's thong-clad ass is truly priceless.

Carl, you're really showing your whiteness here. The Grey Album sucked. It was a good concept, but the mixing (or whatever it's called) was horrible.

HAHAHA! I thought I was the only one that saw this! I didn't realize Nelly was that god-awful until I saw him swipe that credit card.

I saw that when I was watching BET at 2 a.m. or something. Almost as bad... Ludacris's "P-Poppin'" video. Do not click that link if you are at work! hahahahaha

And... the classic.... Wax-a-million's "I ain't got no panties on." So ghetto-fab.

I'm just saying that a person cannot be affirmed.
based on your definition, I used it correctly in the first place. am I right or am I wrong? ceeze?
I think you used it in the right context, but Ceeze is the all-knowing, so I will leave it for him
What the fuck do I know? My GPA in high school was 1.9 AND I'm a college dropout.
I am a horse with no name.

I liked him. I think it was JC who told me that Mase quit rapping and became a minister or something.

It's true. But now he's going to be making a comeback.

Mase was perhaps the worst rapper I've ever heard. I think Puffy only kept him around because he was the only rapper in the world more monotone and boring than himself.

Also, concerning terrible rappers, did anyone watch SNL last night? Who the FUCK was that guy? He was terrrrrrible.

you've got to be kidding. vanilla ice was the worst rapper, if for no other reason than the shitty way he tried to play off stealing under pressure for ice ice baby.

"see, it's that little ting; that's the difference"
thank you for being a friend.

Id much rather listen to vanilla ice purely for laughable value than listening to whatever Ja Rule can shit out of his mouth onto Jennifer Lopez.

Thought this was kinda funny:

"Concert goers got a surprise during the Phish concert near Coney Island, when Jay-Z came out on stage. He joined the band for two songs. Phish provided the backing for Jay-Z as he ran through his hits "99 Problems" and "Big Pimpin'," much to the delight of the audience." (Billboard)

And speaking of Phish and funny, here's a blast from the past I found while looking for this topic: http://www.thefeatures.com/forums/index.ph...ct=ST&f=3&t=875.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

Wow. They truly are going out on top. I'm not being sarcastic. I think that's really awesome.
