TOPIC: Ideal Local Concert
Posted  Friday, November 21, 2003 at 4:56 AM
Post 1 of 56
I've been thinking about this lately since we have such a wealth of musical talent in the area. If you could have any combination of local acts to play a show at a venue of your choosing, which acts would you pick and where would they play? And, if you could make a band consisting of individuals from local bands, who would be in your ideal band? The Privates are kind of ahead of this idea.

show...De Novo Dahl, The Mattoid, and The Privates at the Sutler in Nashville. Yeah, no Features. The Sutler is too small. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this show.

fantasy band...Derek from DND on vocals and guitar, Ben Patton on bass, William Tyler - guitar, Joey from DND on the drumset (I guess...), and Loney Hutchins on synth. I honestly think that the Privates are the best concoction that I could come up with.

Great topic, RD!! I was totally thinking along these lines just the other day. Here's one of many scenarios:

Venue: The Red Rose (before "the man" took over)
Lineup: Imaginary Baseball League, Forget Cassettes, and Slack

IBL starts off the show with a lite 30 minute set on the porch, giving Doni sufficient time to set up his drums inside. Forget Cassettes kick it up a notch with an interruption-free set (also 30 minutes), including a Black Sabbath cover. Slack shows us how its done for about 45 minutes with a set that starts with This Had Better Be Good and ends with All Along.

Of course, I'm on the guestlist and there's only about 30 of my closest friends there plus about 10 hot single legal chicks that all want to do me. After the show, there's a party at Ben*Slack's house where he and I end up watching anime... and maybe making out just a little bit.

Venue: Exit/In
Lineup: Popular Genius, De Novo Dahl, The Features.

Popular Genius could bring about super poppy pop. De Novo Dahl is a nice bridge between them and the features. Plus i havent had the oppurtunity to see DND in ages, sadly.
Eh.

Oh, I like Superflks's show! Of course my ideal local show would be one where The Features and De Novo Dahl play together (Have they ever? It would be awesome!), and I was trying to think of who would be a good opener. And Popular Genius would fit that slot perfectly.

I guess I'd prefer Blue Sky Court, but it probably wouldn't be big enough for that show.

De Novo Dahl opened for the Features on Friday, December 13, 2002. It was the same night as my graduation. And yes, it was awesome. I snagged a GIANT poster advertising that show, and it is awesome as well

thanks! you are totally invited to my show.
have you ever come out and seen popular genius before? they are one of nashville's best secrets definately.

Blue Sky Court would probably be a little small yeah...but i think the sound at the Exit/In is pretty much identical to Blue Sky.

yeah that probably wouldve been a great show if it werent for some asshole dude in the middle of his midlife crisis trying to impress some skanks. The fucker walked up to me and pushes a beer in my hand and told me to hold this a second and as soon as he handed it to me i put it down.
The asshat bouncer at the exit/in came up to me and asked me to leave and i tried explaining it to him and he just forced me out, all the while the fucking dude was laughing it up at the bar. i was only 20 at the time so i guess you arent even allowed to hold a beer for 2.5 seconds.

Moral of the story: the bouncer at the Exit/In sucks.
Eh.

My "Nashville local" concert would be The Features opening for The Features. Set one would be an all-request set, set two would be a normal set, with encore. I know this is unoriginal, but I missed these recent shows and have fallen out with most Nashville bands (or they've fallen out with Nashville and moved away).

An all day event starting with a little punk rock from On Command, then the Lone Official, then JMB, then Lambchop, then back to the rock with Ass Chapel, then the Features. All your needs fulfilled in one late afternoon/evening. If anyone backs out de Novo Dahl would be the 1st replacement.

i like featuresgirl's idea of having two options (because i'm indecisive):

the privates (30 min. set)
character (45 min. set)

or

lucky guns (5 song set, none of the slow junk)
IBL (5 song set)
de novo dahl (45 min. set)
features
