TOPIC: The Honeyrods !!
Posted  Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 4:04 PM
Post 1 of 22
Hi all, I am currently in the process of building an "official" site for The Honeyrods (great Nashville-based band from the 90's)

I have full blessings, but I am on my own as far as content. I am desperately searching for the tracks that were offered on the website back in the day (recorded for a 2nd album??) and any and all live tracks, b-sides, etc...

I already have (and will be offering) Cha Cha Cha (the EP) plus a handful of other stuff, but I would love to have more.

Please e-mail me at admin@thekaties.com

Please help! I know two of the tracks that were posted in the past were called "California" and "Nicotine"

I never liked the Honeyrods. A buddy of mine were convinced they were the next big thing. I think I remember seeing a video of theirs on 120 minutes one time. That was pretty cool. Sorry I can't help you.

By the way, you might get more assistance if you made at least one post about something relevant, like... I don't know... The Features. But, alas, your first post was wasted.

I've never heard The Honeyrods, but isn't Mod Lang basically the same people? If so, I probably wouldn't like them.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

There was one Honeyrods song that was played on WKDF for a while around 1996. It was my favorite song for a few weeks. Ray Davies would possibly remember the title...anyway, sorry I'm of no help with your music compiling Dave.

by the way Carl, you don't have to be such a dick about it.

thanks to all who offered a nice response,

but guess what carligula, I made a concerted effort to go to the ALL THINGS GENERAL board, to the MUSIC section, and post this. The reason I posted here is b/c The Features started out when The Honeyrods were playing and in the same area. Dude I used to see the Features on a weekly basis in Nashville or the Boro waay before they even had the EP out, so there is no need for you to be an ass about me posting

to everyone else, many thanks anyways! also if you like The Katies, I run the website and we have a TON of free downloads - enjoy!

The Katies
Hmmm...I didn't know the Katies were still together. Are they still in Murfreesboro or did they follow the rest of the Spongebath alumni to L.A.?

Of course I remember the Honeyrods! In the mid-90s, they were kind of like the Features are now in that they were poised to break through and be "the rock band that puts Nashville on the map." They did in fact get significant airplay on 103.3, before it was a country station. But then, like all of the other "next big thing" bands from Nashville, they disappeared. I never owned any of their music, but I could pick out that song that they used to play on KDF if I heard it.

Some info...

The Katies made the migration west with the rest of the SB crew, but alas Gary moved back to the Boro to be with his family. You can find him bartending at one of the local pubs most nights...Jason and Josh are still rocking, most recently as "WhenBreathingStops" (3 tracks on thekaties.com) but are putting a new band together as we speak...

The song that was so infectious back when KDF meant alterna rock was "Soap Opera" - still one of my all time faves!

glad to see there are some old nashville people on this board, i might stick around - i usually hang out around selfies.com, just to be with the old Spongebath fans

man i miss living in nashville in the 90's! a good music scene back then...

Hey, fucker, I didn't make up the rules, you did! I just follow and try to enforce them.

I'm really not a bad guy, everdave, and I don't question your love of the band. I'm just honoring a time-honored tradition of giving people shit to come here to talk about other bands. Especially when so much can be said of The Features right now. I'd love to hear about your feelings of the Features and their increasing success. I also applaud your love of 90s-era Nashville bands. I just wish you had picked a better one, like Fair Verona.

While we're bragging about big of fans we are, I first saw the Features in 1997, I've probably seen them 40 times since 2000, I have the most posts on this board, I've heard rough mixes of the new album, I'm on a first-name basis with 3 of the members, and Roger's been to my house twice.

carl...i have seen fair verona many a time, actually tried to look them up a little while back, do you know that now some chicks in ireland are using the name "fair verona"?? weird

i actually love some of their tunes, especially "stock car"

i only posted here b/c i thought other people would be interested, hell all i am doing is spreading nashville music love

and i think it goes without saying my respect for the features or i wouldn't know about this place, i have been lurking for a year at the site, i just haven't had anything to add to the convo...

hell i still have a stack of the original "features ep" w/ the hey lou hidden track (no they arent for sale) b/c I used to pick one or two up at every spongebath show i went to, and i can remember when tower in downtown nashville had the features 10" in the tiny little vinyl bin, oh for about 2 years at least (i worked a few blocks from there so i would peruse the store daily)

well i dont know what else to say...oh yeah, Gary (of the Katies) slings drinks at Wall Street in the Boro.

For the record, I sent Everdave an IM apology. I hate myself for not providing a warmer welcome.

Self promotion still pisses me off, but I don't think that applies so much in this case.

I didn't say "don't enforce the rules", I said "you don't have to be such a dick" about enforcing the rules. Anyway, this is a moot point now, but I just felt the need to clarify. Thanks for being nice to the guy post-"welcome". It's more like you and less like Sina.
