i'm certain it's been addressed before, but does anyone know why the lyrics were changed from:

'there's more to life than living
there's more to do than time
stop taking and start giving
wake up to the design'

to just repeating 'wake up to the design' four times...my theory is matt forgot how the song goes, as the old lyrics were clearly superior. any ideas, affirmations, or disagreements are welcome...

When I grow up, I want to be a scientist like Carl. To prepare for my career, I did some research on this topic.

"The Design" was first played on November 29, 2001 at 12th & Porter. By the end of March, 2002, the lyrics had changed. Five months later, the lyrics had changed back to the original version. jamiecarroll once offered an explanation of the songs history as well. Judging by the voting that took place last fall, most people here prefer the "More To Life Than Living" version. (JC and smee are notable exceptions to this trend.)

However, your question was WHY did it change. I don't know for certain, but as someone who's followed the Features for a while, I think you're idea is correct. Sometimes Matt remembers the lyrics and sometimes he doesn't. If they would play it more often, maybe it would help them stay fresh in his mind!

I think the lyrics were changed back because I said I didn't like them.

It's a moot point. That song is dead.

And I'm glad you're here, too, Andrew.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

i suppose it is a dead song, but it might not be if matt could've mastered the lyrics...i always rather liked it, but not with those aforementioned lines
missing. i'm happy to be here as well--this is now the dominant mode of communication for me...being a scourge upon the message boards of life.

I believe the afore mentioned lines are now missing from the song because of you, Andrew. Because you have made a quick impact on this board and shown yourself as a true "ass" Matthew Pelham decided to drop those lines.

But please, understand this, I like you. Our religion likes you. The forgotten lines were a secret nod to you and our appreciation for you. I'm forced to go public with this now only because you were the one to point this out, but understand, we like you.
