5. Mike Mills (I like his voice much better than Stipes)
For the longest time, I would've agreed with you. Maybe it's because Mills was quiet on Reveal, or maybe it's because I don't care for his songs as much anymore, but Stipe has pulled ahead to me.

My top 5 (in order)
1. Seth Timbs
2. Paul McCartney
3. Michael Stipe
4. Thurston Moore
5. Carla Bozulich

Wayne Coyne was left off intentionally because of my previously mentioned angered state with his band. Consider this a dishonorable mention.

Good call, JC on Van Morrison. I completley forgot about him.

As far as the ladies are concerned the only female singer that I listen to on a regular basis is Liz Phair. I also like Venessa Briscoe from Pylon. I just have one of their tapes so far, but I really like them. Anyone else like them??

Oh, and Nico Case. I went to see her at 12th and Porter a year or so ago and did not really enjoy the show, but her work with the New Pornographers is great. So I guess that I like more women than I thought.

Yes, I know, the top of my list is predictable, I don't care, that's how I feel.

And, Ringo's voice is not my favorite when compared to the other people I mentioned; therefore, he's not on the top five...even though I felt bad leaving him off.

Hmm...I guess the "Be Here Now" voice is okay, but I'm much more of a fan of "Morning Glory" Liam. "Definitely Maybe"'s vocals are too high, and the last two albums have featured his newly destroyed vocal chords. Just listen to Liam's vocals on "Cast No Shadow." They're beautiful. But that's just me...

IWE... I agree with your list except I would bounce the mex pizza in favor of the double decker taco... the closest thing man has made to edible crack. The oh so soft outside with the firm inner taco that is putting up a futile fight to stay hard (insert your own joke here!)

Plus the thought of it makes me think of the Shaq commercial where he drives into a Taco Bell with his head sticking out of the top of a Ferrari...

yes, he was such a prick to kevin. but then again they would have those touching brotherly moments, like when wayne's girlfriend dumped him and he was really sad but didn't let anyone know. kevin was right there by his side. then of course someone would throw out the term "buttface" and all sentimentality be be lost.

I can respect the aversion to the seemingly unholy union of flavors like mint and chocolate, this one just works for me.
I can't deal with mixing fruity and chocolate candy though. I don't know if you get as overwhelmed as I do by the self-serve candy station at the Evanston theatre, but I always make the mistake of mixing M&M's with Runts, etc. in my excitement.

Is your roommate dating Eric Hoyt or has he been claiming more credit for that series than he deserves? He's been hyping that series up to me since late fall quarter. I can't wait.

I am quite upset that I forgot about Pete's Dragon. It should be number four on my non-animated Disney list (or I guess it could be on the animated one, too, now couldn't it?). I used to wear that movie out when I was little.

If Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a Disney, it would be in my top five, as well. I really want to buy the DVD, but probably won't since there's about twenty other DVD's I want right now.

There was once a rumor that Gene Simmons had that cut so that his tongue would be longer. MTV's "Urban Myth Show" proved this to be a myth.

Top Five: (this is the hardest top 5 of the topic as far as I'm concerned)
5. Shadow of a Doubt
4. Strangers on a Train
3. Vertigo
2. North by Northwest

I felt so tempted to throw in Family Plot or Marnie just to be scanalous because I actually love those films. And Trouble with Harry because it is so fun.

and in response to the ramen noodles, i used to call it "ho ho ramen" when i was a kid. i once tried to make ho ho ramen soup on my sidewalk. there was a part that always flooded a little bit, so i poured the noodles & seasoning out and waited a few hours to see if it was hot enough. i didn't eat it. also (this is gross): i used to pour a little milk in my ho ho ramen before eating it.

I liked Lullaby a lot, however I've only read it once (I don't own it, I own the rest) as opposed to a couple times like the other books, so maybe I can't give a fair evaluation. However, it is better then Choke. I enjoyed Choke, but not nearly as much as the rest. The story seemed kind of forced.

I really love Fight Club (the movie) and I really appreciate Chuck's wit and style, but I don't think he has many good ideas. Granted, I've only read Choke and Survivor, but I have a very hard time describing each story to others because I can't remember which was which. They were just too similar (and had many of the same elements of the Fight Club movie). Plus, I get annoyed easily with aimless stories. I would say do yourself a favor and read one Paluhnik book and stop there. Or do his other books offer more variety?

There are certain motifs pervasive in everything Chuck writes, so I can see where you're coming from. I'm hoping his best work is in front of him. Think about it this way, he's pumped out 5 books in about 5 years, and his prose style has gotten exponentially better. Lullaby is pretty different than the rest in a lot of ways. I hope he sits down, takes a couple years, and writes something borderline masterpiece

6? The 6 hour version of Pride and Prejudice (Don't mock it til you've tried it.)
AH, Pride and Prejudice... I remember watching it for the first time in eighth grade. My sister and I taped it when it first came on A&E and watched it over and over again, then got the VHS boxset, then I finally got the DVD boxset. There really is no way to count how many times we've watched it. It's definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. (I don't think I'll be doing a top five list for films though because it's just way too hard.) It's funny, romantic, dramatic, etc...all in one wonderful six hour series. I've tried to get Ray Davies to sit down and watch it several times, but he still hasn't been able to watch it all the way through.

You're the first boy I've heard of who's even seen Pride and Prejudice.

I also love Sense and Sensability and Emma (the Gwyneth Paltrow version, not the Kate Beckinsale version)

Amazingly enough, I've actually gotten not one, not two, but three guys to watch this version of Pride and Prejudice with me. And I know of one other guy that is secretly obsessed with it and he's not even "artsy" by an stretch (he played football at an all-boys school). It's sooo not girl stuff at all. It's witty, sexy, and smart. Elizabeth is my hero. Best female character. I have never met a guy that actually sat down, watched the whole thing, and didn't like it. Ahh...it's the best. I have the whole thing memorized. "Sense and Sensibility" is great, and it's a beautiful film as well (same director as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") and "Emma" is great too. Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam are perfect. I agree with Sexy Sadie...the kate beckinsale version isn't that great. I can barely remember it, actually.

Since I am one of the most immature people ever, here are my top 5 movies/films/whatever

1. "Empire Strikes Back"
2. "X-Men"
3. "Planet Of The Apes"
4. "Election"
5. "Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery"

Honorable mention going to "Auto Focus" "Chicago" all the other Star Wars & Austin Powers movies, "A Very Brady Sequel" "Office Space" "Jurassic Park" "High Fidelity" "Alien" "Meet The Parents" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

I really really suck.

And I posted my favorite novels, but I'm going to be honest and share my top 5 non-comic book reading material...just for laughs...

1. "The Watcher's Guide" (which is a Buffy book)

3. "Ultimate X-Men" (basically a visual encyclopedia to the X-Men)
4. "Star Wars Essential Guide To Characters" (self-explanatory)
5. "The Daria Files"

With honorable mentions going to the extensive catalogue of Road Rules and Real World books I have.

Top 5 things I'd like to see happen at a Features concert:

1. Hear Parrish run his hand up an organ to make the "rowww" noise that you hear in "Rushmore" after Max does the hardest geometry problem in the world and his teacher says, "You got it." I love that.
2. See Parrish wear sunglasses on stage (with his hat, of course).
3. them playing in Athens again
4. Rollum actually following up on "She's Lost Control" (I've heard he's been known to break out into the beginning of that, so don't give me no shit about 'this is irrelevant, don't talk about what songs the features should cover, blah blah blah...')
5. Verde opening up again...that was the best opener

I was under the impression at the time that that was the norm... alas, it was not to be.

I do realize it's US heavy, but I can't really see myself living anywhere else. I could have said Rio, Paris or London but those would be lies.

I would say that honorable mentions would include Seattle and Tokyo.

Top 5 Worst Places I've Lived:
1) Apartment on Old Lascassas with 3 Complete Strangers, Murfreesboro, TN (self explanatory)
2) Deere Hall, Murfreesboro, TN (dorm. self explanatory)
3) Bridge Ave, Murfreesboro, TN (nasty carpet & people with bass systems drove by all the time)
4) East Street, Murfreesboro, TN (because my roommate had a Napalm Death poster in the living room)
5) Clifton Lane, Nashville, TN (because of the mildew; exliontamer can attest!)

Moral: Murfreesboro is bad.

I go to school in the Chicago area and I used to think I wanted to live here permanently. And maybe I'm a huge wimp but it's April 8th and it's 30 degrees and the ground is covered in snow and yesterday while walking out of the drug store the wind blew the electronic door forward and almost into my face.

So now I am just in search of a nice city with this "dry heat" of which I often hear.

Oh my God I hate malls. I was acutally in Rivergate mall the other day (I think.. that's the one in Madison, right? Well, I was in a mall the other day anyway). I haven't been in a mall in a long time, and I forgot how horrible they are. Everything is huge and corporate, the stores are bland, the food is bland, the people are bland. I can't stand it. I especially can't stand the stores that sell trendy clothes to kids. Those are so retarded, it's like, "hey let me provide some rebellion for you, don't bother to think for yourself."
If I was in charge, everything would be close enough to walk to. Small stores could survive against corporate giants because people would support their local guys. There wouldn't be huge roads because we wouldn't need cars as much. We could take busses to school and a 24-hour commuter train into the city. People who got wasted at shows wouldn't have to worry about driving home. And you could meet cute girls on the train rides. Ah, that's my ideal world.

I pretty much agree with you, but I still enjoy a good trip to the mall if there is absolutely nothing else to do or if I just need stuff (if my mom offers to buy me clothing, you can bet we'll be going to the mall over goodwill). Yeah, everything is corporate and bland, but I still find it fun to make fun of all the thugs and 12 year olds who have, apparently, have a lot of rage inside of them. It's entertaining. And I'll admit it, I do go into Hot Topic. Yes, 97% of me hates that store for all of it's retarded, manufactured, mainstream "PUNK RAWKS" ideals, but they have Hives t-shirts so therefore, I go. And I do buy jeans at the Gap because they appear to be vintage (it's hard to find 32 x 28 jeans at goodwills).

Plus, Bourboun Street Cafe in Hickory Hollow is totally tubular. And Dippin' Dots..

Yes, Labyrinth is much better than Dark Crystal, although I love Dark Crystal too. I couldn't get enough Labyrinth when I was little. I always loved how Sarah wrote on the ground with her lipstick for some reason. Of course, now, I just love seeing Bowie say the words "the power of the babe".

Jim Henson was a genius. I cry every time I see The Muppet Movie and Muppets Take Manhattan.

Jim Henson was a genius. I cry every time I see The Muppet Movie and Muppets Take Manhattan.

Top Five Things that make The Muppet Movies among my favorite films ever:
1. The flashback scene when Kermit and Piggy are on the carriage ride in Muppets Take Manhattan. (one of the cutest things I've ever seen in my life. I squeal when I see it.)
2. Kermit singing "Rainbow Connection" in The Muppet Movie
3. Appearance by Steve Martin in "The Muppet Movie"
4. Wedding scene in Muppets Take Manhattan (tears cannot be held back)
5. Anything involving the Swedish Chef or Sam the Eagle
I am so glad I am not the only one who cries at these movies. top 5 ultimate cry scenes:

when piggy and kermit get married in muppets take manhatten (that song will SO be played at my wedding!)
when everyone sings the rainbow connection at the end of the muppet movie
when kermit sings the rainbow conection by himself
X2 -
when everyone has to say goodbye in muppets take manhatten . . .
that one counts for two; im tearing up just thinking about it.

i remember watching that scene the week before i left for college, holy shit, i think i cried for like 5 hours.

I couldn't agree more with everything you've said. I've always said that the wedding song in Muppets Take Manhattan will be played at my wedding, too. The tears roll down my face every time.

And, yes, when "It's Time For Saying Good-Bye" takes place, I cry and cry. It's so sad. And I always feel so sorry for Fozzy when he's all alone with that girl bear he doesn't know well and having to write letters to the others . . . poor Fozzy.

The Muppets are definitely a relevant topic.

I will always consider the Muppet Movie to be among my very favorites. The highlights include:

Honorable mention to the DVD special features that include Jim Henson and Frank Oz improvising with the puppets in the screen tests.
5. the way Kermit says, "rest'runts" when he's chewing out Doc Hopper
4. Mel Brooks licking his invention "electronic cerebrectomy"
3. Fozzie: "they don't look like Presbyterians to me"
2. Kermit: "I don't know why to thank you"
1. Beaker: "sadly temporary..."

As I'm planning my own wedding, I'm trying to convince our priest to sing,

Yes, by a long shot. "Dreams" is second with 154 and "Old School Memories" is a close third with 150. All of this is limited to Misc, but I'll bet it holds up with the rest of the board.

Many posts are tied with last place, having 0 replies. Most of them were started by Elliot/Blightman.

I am so, so, so glad to know that someone else checks stuff like that. I get extremely bored between classes and usually end up figuring stuff like that out. Like, I do believe I have started 19 threads in the Misc. forum. The longest thread in the Concert Reviews section is "3-28-03" I do believe. The longest one in General was, I think, the one about last year's DiTD.

I'm curious to know everyone's top 5 albums to have on vinyl lists.
I've experimented with vinyl, and I've decided that I like it for only two things:
1) Rare, hard-to-find stuff that you can only get on vinyl (like Features singles and Pearl Jam fan club singles).
2) Jazz. Jazz just sounds so perfect on vinyl.

Other than that, I'll stick to CDs. You can take them anywhere, including (very importantly) your car. Vinyl does sound great on a really good turntable, but not that much better. I know this is not a very cool opinion to have, but oh well...
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I was always a much bigger fan of Muppet Babies than the other forms of Muppets (although I do love the puppet Muppets almost as much). Muppet Babies defined my childhood. I can remember watching that show for as long as I've been alive. Luckily I have 8 8 hour tapes full of episodes to pass on to my nephew and...well...for me.

And as for vinyl, since most of the artists that I love have come about in the past 10 years, vinyl is usually pointless to me. But if I find an album of theirs on vinyl, I buy it for the collectibility. I own "Dandy Warhols Come Down" and the Shins' "Oh, Inverted World" on Vinyl as well as "Blue" and "Pinkerton." My dream would be to own "What's the Story (Morning Glory?)"...

Vinyl as decoration is very cool though. So many sleeves from 1950s and 1960s records are just so gosh darn cute, especially the $0.39 records at Goodwill. My prized vinyl posession right now might actually be my Bob Newhart comedy album. It's very cool...

Top 5 things vinyl records are great for:

1. Jazz (and Bob Dylan) - sounds so much more real and alive on vinyl
2. Discovering new bands - would you buy a CD of a band you've never heard of for $18.99? No, but you would buy a record for 50c or $1. (Sadly, digital downloading and the decreasing availability of vinyl records is bringing this to an end, but I still enjoy buying 5 albums for $5.)
3. Getting original pressings of old albums from your parents. ("Sure you can take it, I haven't listened to that old thing in years.")
4. Showing off - nothing looks cooler than moving boxes of records into a dorm room.
5. Matt Pelham loves writing songs about records.

Top 5 to have or to listen to on vinyl? The ones I think sound best on vinyl out of the ones I have are:

1. The Byrds- The Notorious Byrd Brothers
2. Jefferson Airplane- Surrealistic Pillow
3. Led Zeppelin- Houses of the Holy
4. The Shins- Oh, Inverted World
5. The Beatles- Abbey Road (followed closely by Rubber Soul)

Some I wish I had on vinyl:

The Zombies- Odessey & Oracle. I have a reissue, but I doubt it sounds the same as an original would.
The Kinks- Village Green Preservation Society- my quest continues
John Coltrane- Love Supreme

i agree. having high end equipment is the only way to make records sound better. most of the vinyl purists i meet have crappy equipment. records and turntables require maintenance too. records are mainly an aesthetic thing to me. but i'll go ahead and name the top 5 records i own(even though i don't own a turntable).

Yes, this thread should be chopped up into little pieces. And it should die.

But I can't resist.
Vinyl is cool. I like to hold that huge version of the packaging of the same thing I have on CD.

I gave up buying it when I realized that it's a waste of money. I never listened to any of it, except for in the case of the rare stuff that I'd transfer to other formats. So I've got a stack at home of basically unheard records. I would sell them, but it'd be too much trouble.
